The weather was great, and so was the snow... We'll skip over the fact that I am terrible and had (more than) a few meltdowns. (Punny, I know!)
We had a fantastic condo with its own hot tub, right at the base of the mountain. But... The water was off when we arrived. Turns out they'd routed the hot tub waterline through an external wall and it had frozen in the previous few days. They said everything was good to go, and they would send somebody out to clean the now green hot tub. Over the next couple of days, we had a half dozen people stop by the condo to check this or that, all saying everything was fine.
Around 12:30a on our second night, we all woke to two men inside our condo, yelling at us to wake up. (We’re still not sure why this was preferred to the doorbell or any of the phone numbers that they had on file, but it definitely worked.) It was a whole night of chaos and blame, but it turns out that maintenance had completely opened a random faucet in our hot tub room when the pipes were frozen. Well… they unfroze, flooding our room and the condo below us. Luckily, the first floor renters were much more fun than us, and, while we had been in bed for over an hour, they were just getting the party started. Else who knows how long it would have taken somebody to realize what was happening… The guy from the rental agency (who, interestingly, claimed to be God after he managed to fix a light switch) tried to blame us. He was sure that we had turned the faucet on and gone to bed, apparently in an attempt to sabotage our own vacation.
While we finally got the night under control and went back to bed, we didn’t get much help or support from the rental agency. If you go to Keystone, we definitely recommend that you do not use Summit Cove. We had a pretty terrible experience with them and were truly disappointed with their follow up.
Anyways, got that under control, and skied a couple more days:
The plan was to fly home at noon and be back before 3 pm on Sunday. Our flight was overbooked. John and I voluntarily gave up our seats for travel vouchers. (I’ve always wanted to feel like a good Samaritan and get free stuff for my generosity!) We ended up spending close to 12 hours in the Denver airport. Boooooring. Our flight landed in Houston at 1:00a. Home to the animals at 2:00a. Then I spent another hour unpacking and repacking because I was leaving directly from work Monday to go to Maryland for a Schlumberger recruiting trip! Sooooo tired…. But, before you start feeling too sorry for us, our flight back to Houston was refunded, and we got travel vouchers to cover our flights to Phoenix for a wedding in May, as well as a trip home. I think it was worth it :-)
Safe Travels,
Linds
