(Before I share my first few attempts, I have to admit that I seem to lack the creativity to come up with any ideas on my own. I'm pulling these designs straight off of Google Images, and then just doing the best that I can to copy them.)
My first attempt was two cakes for a Slb Cycling Club bake sale. It was also Myka's last weekend in town, so we did most of the decorating around 3-4 am (hence the bag of sour cream and cheddar Ruffles).
The (crudely) crumbcoated cycling cake.
Mmmmm. Ruffles. And marshmallow fondant. But mostly Ruffles.
Fun!
Road to the finish line!
The final product.
I ran out of time on the second cake, so I just covered it in fondant polka dots. For what it's worth, I came up with this awesome design all by myself.
For the Super Bowl, I made a chocolate cake (again, from a box), but tried to get a little more creative on the baking, with Oreo buttercream icing. I thought the cake was okay, but was in love with my rice crispie treat football.
Goals for next time?
1 - Come up with a design that uses rice crispie treats, because they are the world's best food.
2 - Reduce the mess. Between fondant and icing, I'm averaging 4-5 lbs of powdered sugar per cake. A solid half pound of that ends up on the floor, in my hair, all over the dog. It makes my floors sticky and my husband twitchy.
